Tropical Storm Ernesto, strengthening in the Caribbean Sea, may become a powerful hurricane by the time it reaches the Gulf of Mexico next week, according to U.S. forecasters. Meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center expect Ernesto to become the first hurricane of the Atlantic storm season sometime Sunday night or Monday morning, forecaster Michael Brennan said.
