The focus of a global investigation into an alleged plot to blow up US-bound airliners has turned increasingly to Pakistan and Osama bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda network, as 23 suspects faced further questioning in custody. Grainy black-and-white photographs of British Al-Qaeda suspect Rashid Rauf appeared across the media after the Pakistan authorities claimed he was a “key person” in the alleged plot which prompted the national security threat level to be upped to “critical”.
