The Turkish government has named the new head of the country’s powerful military – Gen Yasar Buyukanit. He will take over from Gen Hilmi Ozkok at the end of August. Gen Buyukanit is widely expected to advocate a tougher line on combating the Kurdish rebel group, the PKK, and upholding Turkey’s secular traditions. Full Story
