The Sri Lankan Air Force bombed Tamil Tiger rebel positions Sunday after the insurgents fired at advancing soldiers trying to smash a rebel blockade of a reservoir that has cut water supplies to government-controlled villages in the northeast. “Yes, our air force has bombed terrorist positions today,” the chief government spokesman, Keheliya Rambukwella, said, referring to the rebels. “The air support was called in after they fired mortar at our troops.” There was no immediate report of casualties on either side.
