Iraq’s Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has set off for London and the United States on his first official visit to two allies whose forces are battling insurgents opposed to his government. Maliki’s office said he was accompanied by Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and Oil Minister Hussein al-Chaharistani and would discuss “the two essential dossiers of security and economic development” in London and Washington. The Iraqi leader, head of a religiously and ethnically mixed government struggling to halt Iraq’s slide into sectarian conflict, is due in London later on Sunday. Full Story
