Peruvian judges fear Mexican kingpins behind colleague’s killing
The head of Peru’s judiciary said Thursday that he and his colleagues suspect Mexico’s Tijuana drug cartel was behind the slaying of a Lima judge who was hearing a case involving reputed associates of that criminal organization. Two gunmen opened fire on magistrate Hernan Saturno Vergara, 60, and his friend Hugo Miguel Vergara as they were dining in a Lima restaurant Wednesday night, killing the judge and leaving the other man seriously wounded.
