Guerrillas kidnap 35 Colombian peasants, though 5 escape
Leftist rebels kidnapped 35 peasant laborers – five of whom managed to escape – in the northwestern Colombian town of Riosucio, authorities reported Thursday. An official of the Choco provincial government, Freddy Lloreda, confirmed the mass abduction and said that for the past several days there had been confrontations between illegal armed groups in the area and the army was trying to reestablish control.
