The State Department is recovering from large-scale computer break-ins worldwide over the past several weeks that appeared to be directed at its headquarters and at offices dealing with Asia. Investigators believe hackers stole sensitive information and passwords, and implanted “back doors” in unclassified computers to allow them to return, said officials familiar with the hacking.
