India and Bangladesh troops exchanged gunfire in a sign of growing tensions between forces of the two South Asian neighbors along their porous borders, officials said. There were no casualties but some 200 people were evacuated from their homes in the frontier zone of the Indian state of West Bengal during the gunfire, said T.N. Kundu, an officer of India’s Border Security Force. He said Bangladeshi soldiers opened fire when Indian guards chased cattle smugglers back from across the border.
