East Timor’s President Xanana Gusmao is heading to Indonesia to meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for talks on the security situation here following a wave of deadly street violence. Gusmao was to fly from Dili to the nearby Indonesian resort island of Bali for a one-day visit to thank Yudhoyono for humanitarian assistance extended after East Timor descended into chaos last month, his office said. The East Timorese president stressed in a speech before parliament that former occupier Indonesia had helped to alleviate the suffering of the more than 133,000 people displaced by violence here.
