The Australian government has rejected calls for an overhaul of its anti-terrorism laws, after a high level committee of security and legal experts recommended key changes to protect human rights. The committee, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Simon Scheller, was appointed by Canberra to review a swathe of security legislation introduced in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.
