Police acting on a court order Wednesday broke up a news conference by the outlawed Basque pro-independence party Batasuna — a shock for an organization due to have meetings soon with the prime minister’s party. Five minutes after members of Batasuna began to speak in a hotel in the northern city of Pamplona, three police agents in uniform entered the room carrying a letter from the National Court banning the news conference, said Pernando Barrena, one of the party’s leaders.
