Colombian paramilitary militias have agreed to respect the peace process despite a court decision they said could derail attempts to end the country’s four-decade-old conflict, a government minister said on Sunday. More than 30,000 rightist militia have demobilized under a Justice and Peace law promoted by President Alvaro Uribe that hands them short prison terms for crimes such as massacres and drug trafficking in exchange for a commitment to peace.
