The parliamentary committee behind an official report on last year’s London bombings denied it was a “whitewash” for clearing the police and the intelligence services of culpable failings. “I object to the phrase whitewash,” George Howarth, a member of parliament who sat on the Intelligence and Security Committee, told a press briefing as the report was published. “Had there been a culpable failure, we would have said so,” he said.
