France and the United States circulated a draft UN resolution urging Syria to formally establish bilateral diplomatic ties with Lebanon and demarcate their common border. The text, co-sponsored by Britain and distributed to the 15-member UN Security Council, said doing so “would constitute a significant step” towards asserting Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence and improving bilateral ties.
