German inquiry begins into spies’ role in Iraq
German lawmakers formally launched an investigation into the security services on Thursday that will delve into sensitive areas of cooperation with the United States, including over the Iraq war. An 11-member parliamentary team convened for the first time, ironically on the same day that the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND), the foreign intelligence agency, was throwing a party in central Berlin to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
