Jordan’s state security court sentenced to jail 10 Islamist activists for plotting attacks on Jordanian anti-terrorism officials and US forces in the kingdom. But seven other members of the group, linked to Al-Qaeda’s fugitive frontman in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, were acquitted and allowed to go free, wrapping up a trial that opened in September. The men were rounded up in July 2005 and accused by the state prosecutor of conspiring to carry out “terrorist acts” against Jordanian anti-terrorism officers and US forces training Iraqi troops in the kingdom.
