Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas has said in a television interview broadcast that he does not intend to seek a second term in office. “No, no, (I just want to) complete my current mandate, if I succeed in that,” Abbas told Dubai-based Al-Arabiya television when asked if he would run again when his four-year term expires in 2009. Abbas, who became president of the Palestinian Authority in January 2005 after the death of veteran leader Yasser Arafat, has been locked in a power struggle with the Islamist movement Hamas which now leads the Palestinian government.
