One of Mexico’s most notorious drug suspects apparently sent truckloads of gifts to a municipal Children’s Day party that drew thousands of families, but city officials denied that he had financed the gathering. An advertisement on the second page of the newspaper El Manana that was designed to look like a news story said Osiel Cardenas paid for the party in the city of Reynosa, across the border from McAllen, Texas.
