Venezuelan Soldiers to Be Freed by U.S.
Two dissident Venezuelan military officers who fled their country after being accused in two Caracas bombings will be freed from U.S. custody Friday but not extradited to their native country, officials said. Former army Lts. Jose Antonio Colina and German Varela have been detained by U.S. immigration officials since 2003 after requesting asylum upon arriving in Miami, citing a fear of persecution by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s government.
