Bali bomber Amrozi has told an Indonesian court that he and two other people had been tortured in order to help convict a hardline Muslim cleric over the 2002 killings. Amrozi, who is on death row for his role in the attack that left 202 people dead, said security forces had promised his sentence would be eased if he admitted the bombing was ordered by cleric Abu Bakar Bashir. Bashir, the alleged spiritual leader of militant group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), was sentenced to 30 months in prison for conspiracy leading to the blasts on the holiday island but is trying to have the conviction overturned.
