Rival Shiite leaders agreed Sunday to allow Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari’s party to nominate the next prime minister on the condition that Mr. Jaafari step down. In response, the acting speaker of Parliament canceled today’s session of the assembly to give more time for negotiations.
