Thousands of people staged a pro-democracy protest in Kathmandu on Saturday, the largest turnout in Nepal’s capital since the latest campaign against King Gyanendra was launched. About 8,000 people gathered in the Kalanki suburb on the western outskirts of the city, chanting slogans as they sat cross-legged on the road. “Down with autocracy, restore democracy,” they shouted, waving red flags of protest as riot police watched.
