UN officials expressed grave concern over the bird flu situation in Myanmar, which they said is more serious than previously thought. David Nabarro, the senior UN coordinator for avian influenza, told a press conference that impoverished Myanmar and Cambodia are considerably weaker in fighting the deadly H5N1 virus than nearby Thailand and Vietnam. “In Myanmar we have some major problems,” Nabarro said. “We’re going to be focusing on Myanmar a lot, trying to make sure that the authorities and civil society in that country will be able to cope better.” Full Story
