Nepalese authorities banned all forms of public protest in the capital Tuesday in anticipation of this week’s nationwide strike aiming to pressure King Gyanendra to restore democracy in his Himalayan nation. The opposition vowed to defy the ban. The country’s seven major opposition parties have planned protests, marches and rallies during the four-day strike that begins Thursday.
