Denmark’s first mobile container scanner began operations at the Port of Århus on Monday. The scanner, contained in an oversize vehicle resembling a garbage truck, contains x-ray equipment that customs officials expect will be a valuable tool in detecting weapons, radioactive material or other smuggled items entering the country’s second largest port. The Port of Århus already inspects containers, but the new equipment will make the process much more efficient. While manual inspections of a single container can take an entire day, the scanner and its three-man crew can inspect as many as 60 a day. Full Story
