US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice left London heading back home to Washington after a swing through Europe and a surprise visit to Iraq. She flew out of the British capital after briefing Prime Minister Tony Blair on her snap trip with Foreign Secretary Jack Straw to Baghdad, part of an effort to push Iraqi leaders to end squabbling and settle on a permanent government. Rice came to Europe last week for talks in Berlin and Paris focusing on Iran’s suspected pursuit of nuclear weapons, followed by a trip to Straw’s hometown Blackburn in northwest England. Full Story
