Police and fire investigators today are continuing to probe a “very intense, very hot flash fire” that left a man dead in the washroom of a Tim Hortons outlet near Yonge and Bloor and brought the key downtown intersection to a halt yesterday. Initially described by some bystanders as an explosion, the incident shortly after 1 p.m., in a cubicle in the men’s washroom, sent patrons scrambling into the afternoon sunshine as scores of police, fire and other emergency responders filled Yonge St. between Bloor St. and Yorkville Ave. Investigators later said it appeared a man with a can of gas walked into the washroom, entered the cubicle, doused himself and set himself on fire.
