US says 2 pilots dead after chopper lost in Iraq

The U.S. military confirmed on Monday that two of its pilots died after their helicopter crashed in Iraq. The fate of the pair had been unclear although they were presumed dead after their helicopter went down southwest of Baghdad on Saturday. The U.S. military said the aircraft was probably shot down by insurgents. “The soldiers’ remains were recovered following aircraft recovery operations at the crash site of their AH-64D Apache Longbow, which went down due to possible hostile fire west of Yousifiyah,” the U.S. military’s Central Command said in a statement.
