Arab leaders urged Iraqis to form a national unity government quickly to pave the way for a withdrawal of US-led coalition forces from the war-torn country. They called for “a rapid formation of a national unity government in Iraq which would help in achieving security and stability, preserve the unity of Iraq and its people and pave the way for the withdrawal of foreign troops,” according to a summit resolution. The heads of states at their annual summit in the Sudanese capital also called also for a stronger Arab role in the future of Iraq, which remains engulfed in deadly carnage three years on from the US-led invasion.
