Jordan announced its first case of the H5N1 deadly strain of bird flu had been found in three turkeys, as neighbouring Palestinians were grappling with a spread of the disease in the Gaza Strip. “The results of laboratory tests have shown that the birds had the H5N1 strain of bird flu,” Health Minister Saeed Darwazeh told a press conference. “There are no suspected cases in human beings.” Darwazeh and Agriculture Minister Akef al-Zohbi told reporters that Jordan had isolated the afflicted area in the northern governorate of Ajlun and began early Friday to destroy birds within a three-kilometer (1.86 miles) radius.Full Story
