Rescue Is Followed by New Wave of Violence in Baghdad
The rescue of three hostages early Thursday by a multinational force was followed by a fresh wave of killings that continued today, tempering the military’s euphoria over the successful raid. A string of car bombs late Thursday killed at least 23 people, and attacks today killed another 12. In addition, the authorities recovered 15 more corpses from the streets of Baghdad today, the latest victims in a wave of execution-style slayings here.
