ASIA: The United States regards Indonesia as its strategic partner and one which the world should draw inspiration from its celebration of diversity. Speaking in the capital Jakarta, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice cited the country’s cooperation in anti-terror investigations as well as democratic progress. She also said Indonesia has earned the restoration of close military ties with the US. Amidst tight security involving over 2,000 personnel including the US Marines, Rice met several top Indonesian leaders including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
