Exit polls gave hard-line incumbent Alexander Lukashenko an overwhelming lead in Sunday’s presidential vote in the former Soviet republic of Belarus. The opposition candidate said he would not recognize the results and thousands of his supporters demonstrated. About 5,000 opposition supporters gathered in the main square as polls closed, chanting “Long Live Belarus!” and the name of the main opposition candidate, Alexander Milinkevich.
