Military investigators are recommending criminal charges against a general and at least 14 other officers and soldiers for alleged involvement in a failed coup attempt against President Gloria Arroyo. Army chief Lieutenant General Hermogenes Esperon said Brigadier General Danilo Lim, head of an elite Scout Ranger force, was among those recommended to face charges. Lim was stripped of his command on February 24 amid allegations that military rebels, in an alliance with communist insurgents and opposition figures, were planning to oust Arroyo, using street protests.
