The Ecuadorian army is investigating a presumed aerial incursion by Colombia’s military over the weekend, an incident that – if proven – would exacerbate tensions ignited by previous Colombian actions. A military spokesman told EFE on Monday that the army is looking into the complaints of villagers in northern Ecuador who reported that Colombian aircraft flew over Pueblo Nu-evo, a town on the San Miguel Ri-ver, which divides the two nations. The villagers said that the incursion occurred Saturday night. “We went out on emergency call to provide security and seek evidence of the incursion,” Fausto Narváez, the commander of the army’s 24 Rayo special forces group stationed in the area, told the daily El Comercio.
