Traffic will be banned in Baghdad on Thursday to ensure security for the opening of parliament, Iraq’s interior ministry said. The ban, aimed at preventing car bombs, will be in force from 8:00 pm Wednesday, when the night curfew comes into effect, until the end of the parliamentary session on Thursday, the ministry said. The new parliament, elected three months ago, is expected to hold its first meeting at 10:00 am on Thursday inside the highly-guarded Green Zone which is home to government offices and to the British and US embassies.
