Philippine Army Questioning More Officers
ASIA: The Philippine army said Thursday it was questioning more army officers and enlisted men for their suspected involvement in an alleged coup plot last month. Maj. Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, the army chief, said the fired chief of staff of the elite First Scout Ranger Regiment, Lt. Col. Nestor Flordeliza, and a Scout Ranger company commander, Capt. Ruben Guinolbay, were among those being questioned. Esperon refused to say how many army personnel were being questioned. But another army official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said eight Scout Ranger officers and 17 enlisted men were being investigated and have been restricted to quarters.
