Gunmen abducted a United Nations employee in southern Somalia on Wednesday, the United Nations said. Robert McCarthy, who works for the U.N.’s children’s agency (UNICEF), was abducted on the outskirts of Afmadow, 110 km (70 miles) north west of the southern port of Kismayo, spokeswoman Sandra Macharia said. She declined to comment on the circumstances of McCarthy’s abduction, nor whether the U.N. knew the identity of the kidnappers or if there have been any demands. Full Story
