The first outbreak of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu to strike a European Union farm has been confirmed, as Indonesia’s flu death toll hit the 20 mark with confirmation that a young woman had succumbed to the virus. Eight EU countries have so far confirmed cases of the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain, but all these cases had been found in wild birds. The confirmation by French officials that the deadly H5N1 strain had been found in domestic turkeys found dead in eastern France was the first outbreak on a farm in the European Union.Full Story
