Iraq after the bombing of a major Shiite Muslim shrine fueled fears the three-year-old US invasion could end in a civil war. Washington quickly pointed a finger at Al-Qaeda for the blast in the northern Iraqi town of Samarra that triggered reprisal attacks on 27 Sunni mosques in Baghdad which left six people dead.
