The Colombian army says it is investigating allegations of extreme abuse of some of its young recruits. The move follows the publication of graphic pictures in a magazine. According to the weekly Semana, the photographs show 21 soldiers being beaten and tortured at a base in the eastern town of Piedras. The chief army commander, Gen Reinaldo Castellanos, said he was “ashamed” of the allegations and that those responsible would be punished. Full Story
