A direct subordinate of Russia’s most wanted man has been killed in Chechnya, a spokesman for the republic’s Interior Ministry said Tuesday. According to the spokesman, Dzhabrail Aburzakov was killed when he opened fire on officers who tried to apprehend him in a village in the western Urus-Martan district of the republic. He was said to have maintained close links with warlord Shamil Basayev, who has claimed responsibility for the Beslan school massacre in September 2004, which claimed 331 lives, and other bloody attacks.
