Security in the Philippine capital was tightened on Monday, the eve of last year’s deadly bombings by Muslim rebels on Valentine’s Day, as fresh rumors swirled of a coup plot against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Under “Task Force Valentine”, extra police patrolled Manila’s streets and 10 mobile checkpoints were being set up after dark around the sprawling city of 12 million people.
