A senior separatist leader in Indian-administered Kashmir, Maulvi Abbas Ansari, has been placed under house arrest. The move was to prevent him leading a procession to observe the Islamic month of Muharram, officials say. The procession had been due to take place despite an official ban on such processions through residential areas of the city.
