President Bush will ask Congress for $1.1 billion in the next year to support Afghanistan, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said today. Rice spoke at an Afghanistan “donor conference” in London where more than 60 nations have gathered to discuss the future of a nation whose transition to democracy Rice called “remarkable but incomplete,” more than four years after the United States led a military coalition to drive out the Islamic fundamentalist Taliban militia.
