A Sydney judge has refused bail to a former Serbian army commander wanted in Croatia to face war crimes charges. Dragan Vasiljkovic, also known as ‘Captain Dragan’, was arrested here on January 19 on a provisional extradition request from Croatia. Zagreb suspects Vasiljkovic of being responsible for the torture and killing of Croatian civilians and prisoners of war in the rebel Serb stronghold of Knin in 1991 as well as in the southern village of Bruska in 1993.
