European Union governments today asked the European Defence Agency to focus on improving military capabilities in command, control and communications, air-to-air refuelling and heavy transport – all keys to effective, rapid response to developing crises. The EDA Steering Board, meeting at the level of national capabilities planners, agreed that 2006 would be a decisive year to make progress on the agenda laid out by EU Heads of State and Government at their meetings in Hampton Court and Brussels at the end of last year.
