Royal Thai Armed Forces supreme commander Gen. Ruengroj Mahasaranond on Wednesday dismissed the possibility of negotiations with any separatist movement, asserting that the government’s current strategy is on the right track in dealing with the insurgency in the violence-plagued Southern border region. The armed forces chief was responding to a news report that an armed Muslim separatist group in southern Thailand would drop its demand for independence in return for peace talks to end the ongoing violence that has left more more than 1,100 people dead during the past two years.
