The security situation in Afghanistan has taken a turn for the worse in the past year, according to a team of foreign policy and terrorism experts recently returned from a fact-finding mission there. Tactics employed by insurgents in Iraq, including roadside bombs and suicide bombers, appear to have migrated to Afghanistan and threaten to derail what has been one of the few bright spots in the four-year war on terror, the experts said Jan. 19 during a panel discussion at The Brookings Institution.
